We all want ’em. But before you read that word and immediately throw your mat down on the floor to start crunching away, consider this: crunches may not be the most effective way to get that toned tummy. 

Hold up. For real?!

Believe it or not, many back injuries can be attributed to repeated flexing and extending of the spine… Yep, the exact movement you’re doing when you perform a crunch. Sure, you feel that burn when you do them. There is a time and a place for crunches. But crunching is not quite the way your core was designed to work. Not to mention that crunches only target a few isolated abdominal muscles, and your core goes far beyond those! Your core includes your lower back, your obliques, and even your hip flexors!

So, what to do instead? Here are 3 of our favorite non-crunch core moves. Tack this little 3-move circuit onto the end of your #WorkoutWednesday and let us know what you think.

Plank Lateral Taps - 60 sec
